University of Alberta

The University of Alberta in Edmonton is a U15 research university with particular strength in petroleum engineering, chemical engineering and the earth sciences, which makes it among the more directly relevant Canadian institutions for a Kazakh applicant. Alberta is Canada's oil and gas province. Kazakhstan's economy is weighted to hydrocarbons and extractives. A petroleum or chemical engineer trained in Edmonton works on comparable geology and comparable cold-climate operating conditions to those at home. Alberta also has lower tuition and living costs than Ontario or British Columbia, and no provincial sales tax. Admissions are rolling rather than fixed. A deadline of 1 March with international documents by 8 May is reported rather than confirmed, and should be checked with the university. The structural point holds regardless: selective programmes fill earlier, so a place can be gone while the deadline is still open.
