Anhui University

Anhui University was established in 1928 in Anqing and rebuilt in Hefei in 1958. It is a provincial university within the Double First-Class Initiative and the former Project 211, teaching across 18 schools with 65 undergraduate programmes. It is comprehensive rather than specialist, covering the sciences, engineering, economics, law, the humanities, arts and design, and music. For an applicant who has not settled on a field, that breadth allows a change of direction in a way a technical or agricultural university does not. As a provincial university it sits below the Project 985 institutions in standing, which makes entry requirements more reachable than at the University of Science and Technology of China in the same city, a C9 member. Hefei is among the more affordable Chinese provincial capitals to live in.
