China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) was founded in 1952 as the Beijing Institute of Geology and is China's premier geosciences university, ranked first nationally in geology and part of the Double First-Class Initiative. For a Kazakh applicant that specialism is unusually well matched to the national economy. Kazakhstan's mining and extractive industries are a substantial share of GDP and employment, covering uranium, copper, coal, oil and rare earths, and Chinese investment and technology in the sector is significant and growing. A degree in geology, mining engineering, petroleum geology or resource exploration from China's leading institution in the field therefore has direct application at home rather than only abroad. That is a stronger argument than general institutional ranking. Reported international bachelor's tuition is CNY 18,000 to CNY 30,000 a year, with Wuhan's low living costs on top.
