Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology

Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology was established in Shantou in 2016 through a partnership between the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and Shantou University. It teaches engineering and science in English. The Technion is Israel's leading technical university and among the strongest engineering institutions globally, with a particular reputation in applied science, materials and entrepreneurship. This is the only route to a Technion-standard engineering education in China. It publishes real scholarship figures, which few joint ventures do: Chancellor's Scholarships and Academic Excellence Scholarships worth up to CNY 50,000 a year for students in the top 15%. Against joint-venture tuition that is a substantial reduction rather than a token one, and a defined threshold can be worked toward where a discretionary award cannot. Shantou is in eastern Guangdong, a smaller city than Shenzhen or Guangzhou with correspondingly lower living costs, though with fewer international connections.
