Jilin University

Jilin University was founded in 1946 in Changchun and is a Project 985 institution, expanded substantially through mergers in 2000. It teaches across eight campuses in five districts, covering philosophy, economics, law, literature, education, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine and management. Its Norman Bethune College of Medicine runs an English-medium MBBS over six years including a final clinical internship. One requirement attached to it is easily missed and matters: international students must pass HSK 4 before the degree is awarded. That is a condition of graduating rather than of entering, and it applies despite the programme being taught in English. Jilin is reported to run institutional merit awards alongside the national scheme and a Jilin provincial scholarship, which would be unusual among Chinese universities. Those terms are not on a jlu.edu.cn page that answers, so they should be confirmed with the university rather than budgeted for. Changchun is among the most affordable university cities in China, with severe winters.
