Renmin University of China

Renmin University of China was founded in 1937 and reorganised under its present name in 1950. It is among the leading Chinese universities for the social sciences, law, economics, journalism and public administration. Its subject profile is the thing to weigh. Where Tsinghua and Harbin are engineering institutions and the C9 group generally leans technical, Renmin is a humanities and social science university. For a Kazakh applicant intending law, economics, international relations or public policy, it is a stronger fit than a higher-ranked technical university. That profile also raises the language bar in practice. Social science and law degrees are taught in Chinese and assessed through reading and written argument, which is a heavier language load than a technical subject where formulae and diagrams carry part of the meaning.
