Tianjin Medical University

Tianjin Medical University was founded in 1951 and is a Project 211 institution, one of relatively few medical universities to hold that designation. It has around 8,515 students, of whom over 954 are international, roughly 11%. That proportion is among the highest of any Chinese medical university and it matters practically. An institution where one student in nine is international has settled arrangements for clinical placements, documentation and support, rather than treating overseas students as an exception. The university is listed in the International Medical Education Directory, and was permitted to establish a seven-year medical programme in 1988. Tianjin sits half an hour from Beijing by high-speed rail at materially lower living costs, which across a six-year medical degree is a substantial saving with the capital still reachable.
