Zhengzhou University

Zhengzhou University is the leading university in Henan province, formed in 2000 from three merged institutions with roots to 1956. It is part of Project 211 and the Double First-Class Initiative and among the largest universities in China by enrolment. It documents the terms of the Henan Province Government Scholarship more clearly than most provincial schemes are documented anywhere, and one condition attached to it matters more than the amount. The award covers tuition including internship fees. Where it does not cover the full tuition, the applicant is expected to pay the remainder, and if they do not, the published terms cancel the scholarship outright rather than reduce it. A partial award that lapses entirely when the shortfall is unmet is a different proposition from one that simply pays less, and the value should be established against the actual programme fee before any planning rests on it. The Henan window also runs to the end of May, months after the national embassy deadline in February.
