The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama

The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama is a specialist drama conservatoire in north London and a member institution of the University of London. It teaches acting, applied theatre, drama therapy, stage and production management, and design for performance. It publishes the single most useful arrangement in this part of the collection. For Autumn 2026 entry Central states it will not conduct face-to-face overseas auditions or interviews, and that applicants based outside the UK undertake an online audition or interview instead. It goes further, and this is the part that matters. Central states that whether applicants attend onsite or online, they have equal chances of being recalled for another round or offered a place. An online audition is not a lesser route here — which removes the usual worry that auditioning remotely is a disadvantage disguised as a convenience. The trade is the English requirement. Central asks for CEFR C1, roughly IELTS 7.0, against the 5.5 common at music conservatoires. That is a genuine bar and takes months to reach.
