Solent University

Solent University is a modern public university in Southampton, teaching maritime studies, sport, media and film, business and health. Material published under its former name, Southampton Solent University, refers to the same institution. Its Warsash Maritime School is an established provider of maritime and merchant navy training, which distinguishes it from most modern universities. Whether international students are eligible for cadetship or licence-track programmes should be confirmed first, because maritime licensing in several countries is restricted by nationality and a course that cannot lead to a licence is worth far less than it appears. Solent's payment terms are staged rather than front-loaded: 50% of fees before enrolment and the remaining 50% within 15 weeks of starting. A student awarded a full tuition scholarship has the deposit requirement waived entirely. Solent is a separate institution from the University of Southampton, in the same city, admitting separately. The two admit separately and differ substantially in entry requirements.
