Teesside is likely to be among the lowest total-cost routes to a British degree available to a Kazakh family, and for a family constrained on money that is the whole case for it. Three things compound: a three-year English degree rather than a four-year Scottish one; fees at a modern university that generally sit near the bottom of the British range; and north-east England living costs among the lowest in the country. Against a four-year Scottish degree in an expensive city the difference across the course can exceed GBP 50,000 — larger than any scholarship a British university is likely to offer, and obtained without competing for anything. Teesside is known for computing, animation and games, engineering, health and forensic science, and its animation and games provision is well regarded. It also teaches in London, which raises the maintenance requirement by GBP 3,222 a year and undoes much of the saving. Establish the campus before anything else.
