University of York

The University of York is a public research university in the north of England. Its Kazakhstan page is unusually direct about the two certificates a Kazakh student might hold, and says opposite things about them. On the attestat: 'if you're studying the Attestat you will need to take an additional course before being able to apply for an undergraduate course at York'. Note the wording — before being able to apply, not before being likely to succeed. It is a condition of applying at all. On the Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools certificate: 'we accept the NIS Grade 12 Certificate for direct entry to undergraduate programmes, where appropriate, without the requirement to complete a foundation programme'. For a family, the gap between those two sentences is a year of fees and a year of living costs.
