Duquesne is a Spiritan Catholic university whose undergraduate offer is dominated by health professions to an unusual degree — nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant and the rest of the Rangos School account for 39.7% of bachelor's degrees conferred, with business a distant second at 14.2% and engineering marginal at 1.4%. Theology and philosophy sit in the required core for every student. The admission pattern is the reverse of most US universities: Duquesne admitted 86% of all applicants for Fall 2025 but only 45% of international applicants, so the headline acceptance rate badly overstates a Kazakh applicant's odds. It is also the least international university recorded, at 2.9% of undergraduates. Against that, the barriers to applying are the lowest encountered so far — no application fee, no Early Decision, no required English test at application stage, and a TOEFL threshold of 70 that is ten to twenty points below the technical universities.
