Hunter College

Hunter is a CUNY college on Manhattan's Upper East Side with a diverse undergraduate body of around 17,000. Its combination of features is unusual and a Kazakh applicant should weigh all of it together. The English entry bar is among the very lowest available, at TOEFL iBT 61 and IELTS 6.0. But Hunter offers no conditional admission for students who fall short, states in its own catalogue that it does not provide financial assistance to international students, and does not make housing arrangements, so students must organise New York City accommodation themselves, ideally before departure. Hunter is therefore accessible academically and demanding financially and logistically, in a city where housing is among the most expensive in the United States.
