Louisiana State University

LSU is Louisiana's public land-grant, sea-grant and space-grant research university at Baton Rouge, with 15 schools and colleges, two health sciences centres, 330-plus undergraduate programmes and over 1,600 international students from more than 100 countries. It admits in three intakes. Its entry rule contains a detail that materially helps a Kazakh applicant. LSU requires an academic average equivalent to a B, but computes it by 'averaging the grades of secondary school academic courses, excluding nonacademic courses such as physical education, vocational/technical courses, religion, art, music', so the weaker non-academic marks common on a Kazakh attestat are stripped out before the average is taken. Scholarships are reported to range from USD 500 to the full cost of attendance, with the Stamps Scholarship and President's Alumni Scholars Award both covering four years at around USD 50,000 a year.
