Oakland University

Oakland University is a public research university in Rochester, Michigan, founded 1957, with more than 16,000 students including over 500 international students from 60-plus countries across 140-plus programmes. Its position on international funding is restrictive and is stated twice on its own pages: 'International students are not eligible for OU scholarships, except where reflected', and 'U.S. citizens and permanent residents qualify for OU scholarships; international students are not eligible for OU scholarships, except where reflected.' Its Non-Resident Award, which covers the gap between in-state and out-of-state tuition, is restricted to citizens of Canada and Mexico, so Kazakhstan does not qualify. Against that, Oakland's application barriers are low: unofficial transcripts and scanned score reports are accepted by email, and deadlines are late.
