The College of New Jersey

TCNJ is a public college that awards no doctorates at all — bachelor's and master's only — and draws 95% of its undergraduates from New Jersey. That shows in the numbers a Kazakh applicant should care about. International students are 1.2% of undergraduates, which is very low for a US public college, and TCNJ admitted 17.9% of international applicants for Fall 2025 against 61.5% overall, an unusually sharp inversion. Only three international students enrolled that year. Against that, out-of-state tuition of USD 22,270 is less than half what a typical US private university charges. The coursework bar is unusually high: 18 academic units including 4 of mathematics and 4 of science. Applicants must declare a specific programme of study on the Common Application member form and cannot apply undecided, and the accelerated seven-year medical, seven-year optometry and nursing programmes still require SAT or ACT despite the general test-optional policy.
