University of Texas at Arlington

UT Arlington is a public research university in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Its treatment of non-resident students is the most finely graded of the Texas institutions recorded: rather than a single waiver threshold, UTA operates a two-tier system keyed to the size of the merit award. In its own words: 'At UT Arlington, non-resident students... may qualify for either a non-resident tuition waiver or a non-resident/international grant, depending on the amount of merit-based scholarship they receive.' Students receiving higher-tier merit scholarships — UTA names Presidential Honors, Presidential, Maverick Academic and top Transfer Honors awards — 'may be eligible for a tuition waiver... to be charged in-state tuition rates instead of non-resident rates.' Those receiving lower-tier scholarships instead receive a non-resident or international grant. Nobody with a merit award falls through the gap entirely.
