UVM is Vermont's public research university in Burlington, offering more than 160 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programmes. Its position on international funding is stated with unusual candour in its own catalogue: merit-based scholarships are offered each year with no additional application required, but 'most international students pay the full cost of attending UVM', and students on non-immigrant visas are charged out-of-state tuition rates. One structural detail deserves attention before an applicant plans: a student scoring TOEFL 80-89 is admitted but required to take a compulsory English course for non-native speakers, which UVM publishes openly and most universities do not.
