Awarding degrees conferred from Pittsburgh

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar opened in 2004 in Doha's Education City and awards Carnegie Mellon degrees conferred from the Pittsburgh campus. It teaches computer science, business administration, information systems and computational biology to around 467 undergraduates. One fact makes it among the most important entries among the American campuses abroad for a Kazakh applicant, and it is counterintuitive. The Pittsburgh campus offers no scholarships to international students. The Qatar campus is need-blind and operates a need-based grant programme. That means a student who could not afford Carnegie Mellon in Pennsylvania may be able to attend Carnegie Mellon in Qatar, receive the same degree, and have it conferred from Pittsburgh. One rule needs reading carefully. The binding Early Decision round is open only to Qatari citizens, residents of Qatar, and international students with zero financial need — so an applicant seeking aid applies in the regular round, which is the round that lets them compare offers anyway.
