John Cabot University was founded in Rome in 1972 and is Italy's largest American university, teaching a liberal arts curriculum entirely in English to around 1,800 students from over 80 countries. The average class size is 15. It has built genuine academic depth over five decades in art history, classics, political science and international business. For a student in those fields Rome is not incidental: the material being studied is physically present in the city. Its School of Business holds AACSB accreditation, and it is described as the first overseas American liberal arts university in Europe to earn it. That is held by a minority of business schools worldwide and is the clearest independent quality signal available in the field. The academic calendar incorporates structured internship placement across Roman industries, and campus buildings and residence halls are centrally located in Trastevere — which matters practically, since Rome's private rental market is difficult for an international student without Italian.
