China Normal University, awarding NYU degrees

New York University Shanghai is one of New York University's three degree-granting campuses, alongside New York and Abu Dhabi. It admits on American practice through the Common App, teaches entirely in English, and awards an NYU degree. It belongs among the American campuses abroad rather than among Chinese universities because nothing about the application resembles the Chinese route: no CSCA, no HSK, no Chinese admissions test. A Kazakh applicant prepares for it exactly as they would for an American university, and is assessed on essays, recommendations and transcript. Two features distinguish it from both its sibling campuses and its Chinese neighbours. Students may spend time at New York University's campuses in New York and Abu Dhabi and at its global network sites. And Chinese language study is built into the curriculum for students without prior Chinese, so a graduate leaves with the language as well as the degree. The visa is China's, not America's. The student holds an X1 and does not enter the United States unless they choose a study-away term.
