Webster University's Geneva campus sits on the shores of Lac Léman in the foothills of the Swiss Alps, ten minutes from the international airport, and specialises in international relations alongside business and media. Geneva is the argument. The city hosts the United Nations Office at Geneva, the World Health Organization, the World Trade Organization, the International Committee of the Red Cross and hundreds of other international organisations. For a student of international relations, studying there means proximity to the institutions being studied rather than reading about them. For a Kazakh applicant intending diplomacy, international law or work with multilateral organisations, that access is difficult to replicate. Switzerland is the offset. It is among the most expensive countries in the world to live in, Geneva among its most expensive cities, and it is not a European Union member, so neither EU mobility nor EU post-study rights apply. Its scale is worth knowing precisely: around 420 students from 90 countries, of whom 220 are undergraduates. The undergraduate cohort is therefore small and much of the campus population is postgraduate or transient.
