Public English-language undergraduate university

Bishop's University in Sherbrooke is one of Quebec's three English-language universities, founded 1843, and among the smallest universities in Canada with an undergraduate enrolment of roughly two and a half thousand. The small scale is the proposition. Teaching is in small classes with close faculty contact, on a residential campus in the Eastern Townships, which for an international student arriving alone means a structured environment rather than an anonymous one. Two things specific to Quebec apply and neither appears in ranking tables. Bishop's is covered by the June 2026 French agreement but exempt from its financial penalties, so the target binds it more loosely than it binds McGill or Concordia. And Quebec charges international students more at its English-language universities than at its French-language ones. Université de Sherbrooke, a French-language university, is in the same city, on the other side of the second of those policies.
