Concordia University

Concordia University in Montreal was formed in 1974 from the merger of Loyola College and Sir George Williams University. It teaches in English and is strongest in engineering, computer science, business through the John Molson School, and film and fine arts. Its fine arts faculty is the largest in Canada and its film school among the best known, which for a Kazakh applicant in those fields is a stronger argument than any ranking. Two Quebec conditions apply. Under an agreement reached in June 2026 the province's English-language universities must ensure 60 per cent of their out-of-province and international undergraduates reach Level 4 French by graduation, starting with the autumn 2026 cohort — a target on the university rather than a condition on the student. And Quebec issues a Quebec Acceptance Certificate rather than a Provincial Attestation Letter, with slower processing and its own, higher, proof-of-funds figure. Against that, Montreal is materially cheaper than Toronto or Vancouver, and Concordia is more accessible than McGill in the same city.
