George Brown College

George Brown College sits in downtown Toronto and at the waterfront, and teaches culinary arts, construction and engineering technology, design, health sciences and business. Its culinary and construction provision is what distinguishes it, and the two now sit on opposite sides of the work permit line. Construction and building technology fall within skilled trades, among the fields reported to remain eligible at diploma level. Culinary programmes sit less clearly, since hospitality certificates are reported to have lost eligibility while trades have not, and a culinary programme can be classified either way. For an applicant drawn to the culinary school specifically — and it is among the best known in Canada — the classification of the exact programme should be established before anything is committed. That is a question with a definite answer and it is worth insisting on one.
