Queen's University

Queen's University in Kingston was founded in 1841 by royal charter, predating Canadian confederation, and is best known for its Smith School of Business and its engineering programmes. Commerce at Queen's is among the most competitive undergraduate business programmes in Canada, and it requires a Personal Statement of Experience reported as due 1 February, roughly two weeks after the OUAC deadline. Kingston is a small city between Toronto and Montreal with living costs well below either, and Queen's has an unusually residential campus culture with a strong alumni network — which for a Kazakh graduate intending to work in Canada is a practical asset in a job market where referrals matter. The small-city setting is the trade. Kingston offers fewer internships and a thinner part-time labour market than Toronto, though the university's career provision partly compensates.
