Trent University

Trent University in Peterborough was founded in 1964 and is an undergraduate-focused institution known for environmental science, forensic science and small class sizes. The teaching model is the distinguishing feature. Trent uses a college system with seminar teaching and small groups rather than large lectures, which for an international student arriving alone means more contact with faculty and a more structured social environment than a large university provides. For a Kazakh applicant that is worth weighing honestly rather than dismissing. A student who would be one of six hundred in a Toronto lecture theatre may learn more, and settle faster, in a seminar of fifteen. A student who wants the anonymity and scale of a large city university would find Trent constraining.
