Hunan University

Hunan University traces its site to the Yuelu Academy, founded in 976, which makes it among the oldest places of continuous education anywhere. It took its present name in 1926 and is a Project 985 institution in Changsha. It is described as one of the Project 985 universities to have launched an international student programme taught entirely in English, and it has recruited international students since the 1990s rather than recently. For a Kazakh applicant without Chinese, an established English-medium route at a Project 985 university is worth investigating directly. The university is strongest in civil engineering, mechanical and vehicle engineering, chemistry, business and design, and belongs to the BRICS Universities League. Changsha living costs sit well below the coastal cities, and the campus sits at the foot of Yuelu Mountain.
