Nanjing Medical University

Nanjing Medical University was founded in 1934 and is a provincial university within the Double First-Class Initiative. It was among the first medical universities in China to offer six-year programmes, from 1962, and began an English-taught MBBS in 2005 with Ministry of Education approval. That 2005 date matters. An English-medium programme running for two decades indicates established provision rather than a recent commercial venture, and an admissions office that has processed international medical applicants for a long time. It teaches across two campuses, Wutai and Jiangning, and both have international student apartments, which removes the private rental question that arises at many Chinese universities. Nanjing living costs run well below Beijing and Shanghai while the city remains an hour from Shanghai by high-speed rail. Across a six-year medical degree that difference compounds substantially.
