Yunnan University

Yunnan University in Kunming was founded in 1922 and is the leading university in Yunnan province, part of Project 211 and the Double First-Class Initiative. Its ecology and biodiversity research is nationally recognised, reflecting Yunnan's position as the most biologically diverse province in China. Its international orientation runs toward Southeast Asia rather than Central Asia, with substantial provision in the languages and studies of Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. That is not directly relevant to a Kazakh applicant, but it indicates an institution experienced in teaching international students rather than one for whom they are unusual. Kunming has a temperate climate year-round, which distinguishes it from almost every other Chinese university city.
