Cardiff University is a public research university in the Welsh capital, and one of the more accessible British institutions for a Kazakh school leaver to plan around, because it publishes both its bars and its fallbacks. On qualifications it is explicit. An applicant will 'be required to successfully complete your high school certificate with grades of at least 4.0/5.0 in addition to a recognised one-year foundation programme'. But 'if you attend a Nazarbayev Intellectual School and have taken the NIS Grade 12 Certificate we can consider you for direct entry to year one'. It also opens a third door that many universities close: 'some Schools will consider successful completion of at least one year of a relevant four-year (honour's) degree programme, with good grades in key subject areas, at a recognised institution in Kazakhstan'.
