Heriot-Watt University

Heriot-Watt is the only university in this group with a genuine multi-campus network abroad, and for a Kazakh family that opens a route no other institution here offers. Beyond Edinburgh, it teaches its own degrees in Dubai and in Malaysia. A degree taken outside Britain avoids British living costs, the Student visa, the maintenance evidence and the health surcharge, and Dubai is closer to Kazakhstan and better connected by air. The fees are typically lower as well. That is not automatically the better choice, and one consideration outweighs the rest: the Graduate Route, which allows post-study work in Britain, requires study in Britain. A student who completes the whole degree in Dubai holds a Heriot-Watt degree but may hold no right to work in the United Kingdom afterwards. For anyone whose plan includes staying on, that decides it. Heriot-Watt is known for engineering, actuarial science, the built environment, and brewing and distilling.
