Oxford Brookes University is a public university in Oxford, teaching business, architecture, engineering, health, education, publishing and the humanities. It traces its origins to the Oxford School of Art, founded in 1865, and gained university status in 1992. Its international undergraduate rate for 2026/27 is around GBP 19,700, against the University of Oxford's GBP 37,380 to GBP 62,820. Across a three-year degree the difference at the lower end exceeds GBP 50,000 — for an Oxford address, though not for an Oxford degree. The two institutions are entirely separate and share nothing but a city. The cost of living is the catch. Oxford has a constrained housing market and is among the more expensive English cities, while the Home Office requires only the lower non-London maintenance figure of GBP 10,539. A student here should budget above the visa floor rather than to it, which is the same trap as Reading, Guildford and Cambridge. Oxford Brookes is well regarded for architecture, publishing, hospitality and business.
