Adelphi University

Adelphi sits in Garden City on Long Island, 37 km from Manhattan, with a second teaching site at its New York City-Manhattan Center. Nursing and health sciences dominate: the College of Nursing and Public Health alone holds 1,413 undergraduates, more than a quarter of the total, and BS degrees outnumber BA degrees three to one. Psychology has its own school, the Derner School, which is unusual at this size and reflects a long-standing strength. Adelphi publishes three distinct entry routes for international students — Standard Entry for those already meeting the academic and English bar, the Adelphi International Accelerator run at aui.adelphi.edu giving academic and language support through the first year, and a non-degree Intensive English programme — so a Kazakh applicant short on English is redirected rather than refused. International students make up 4% of undergraduates, drawn from 63 countries. Adelphi also designates a number of undergraduate programmes as DHS STEM-eligible, which extends post-study work eligibility under OPT from 12 months to 36 for those majors.
