Christopher Newport University

Christopher Newport is a public liberal arts university in Newport News, Virginia, on a coastal campus, offering small class sizes and what it describes as a private-feel public education. Two features define an international application. A Kazakh applicant cannot use CNU's test-optional route, because CNU states that students whose native language is not English may not apply test-optional, so English evidence is compulsory. And more decisively, CNU's own graduate international page states: 'As a state-supported institution, Christopher Newport currently does not provide financial aid to international students.' That statement appears at graduate level, while CNU separately advertises partial merit scholarships to all incoming first-year students through its Honors Program and President's Leadership Program, each requiring a separate essay and an admission interview. The two positions need reconciling before an applicant invests time.
