Michigan Tech is a public research university in Houghton, on Michigan's Upper Peninsula in the Keweenaw Peninsula, with roughly 7,400 students of whom about 720 are international. It is engineering- and science-focused, reports that about 94% of graduates are employed or in further study, and describes its campus as among the safest in the US. Its international award is automatic and substantial: the International Ambassador Scholarship is 'available for incoming first-year undergraduate and transfer students who are citizens and residents of countries other than the United States', with students 'automatically considered for these awards after they are accepted', and awards ranging from USD 11,000 up to USD 14,300 per year. The critical constraint is that Michigan Tech offers no ESL programme — an applicant who misses the English threshold has no pathway in.
