Reed College

Reed is a liberal arts college in Portland, Oregon with roughly 1,280 students, an endowment above USD 876 million, and an academic culture organised around a required first-year Humanities 110 course and a compulsory senior thesis. Its financial position is unusual: 'All financial aid at Reed is granted on the basis of demonstrated financial need. Reed offers no academic or athletic scholarships.' There is no merit route at all. Against that, Reed has just opened a route aimed squarely at applicants like a Kazakh student. Beginning with the Fall 2026 entering class, the Continental Scholarship Program offers full-tuition scholarships to two students from each continent. Reed states it has awarded more than 100 full scholarships to students from 49 countries over the past three years, many covering room and board as well as tuition.
