Savannah College of Art and Design

SCAD is a private art and design university at Savannah, Georgia, and it differs from the other art schools recorded in one important respect: the portfolio is not required for admission, but it is the route to scholarship money. SCAD states: 'Portfolios and auditions are not required for undergraduate admission. However, first-year and transfer applicants are strongly encouraged to submit one if possible to be considered for scholarships.' A Kazakh applicant can therefore be admitted on academic record alone, which is useful for someone drawn to design but without a developed body of work, while a portfolio remains the mechanism for funding. SCAD adds a warning about timing that matters more here than at most institutions: 'These funds are limited and are awarded to the earliest qualifiers.' Consideration is automatic: 'All admitted students are automatically considered for institutional scholarships. There is no need to apply.'
