UMass Amherst is the largest public research university in New England, with more than 110 undergraduate programmes and a student-faculty ratio around 18:1, admitting for autumn, spring and summer entry. The single most important fact for a Kazakh applicant is structural rather than academic. As a public university, UMass charges international students the out-of-state rate, which is roughly double the Massachusetts resident rate: out-of-state tuition and fees run near USD 40,000 against roughly USD 18,000 for residents. That said, the out-of-state figure still sits below almost every US private institution, and the total cost of attendance for an out-of-state student is materially lower than at comparable private colleges.
