Texas A&M University at Qatar

Texas A&M University at Qatar opened in 2003 in Doha's Education City and teaches engineering exclusively, awarding Texas A&M degrees. Its subject focus makes it the most directly relevant Education City campus to the Kazakh economy. Texas A&M's engineering strength is in petroleum, chemical and mechanical engineering, and Qatar is one of the world's largest gas producers. Kazakhstan is a substantial oil and gas producer with an economy weighted to hydrocarbons and extractives. A petroleum or chemical engineer trained at Texas A&M inside a Gulf energy economy is employable in Kazakhstan, across the Gulf and internationally, and the degree is an American one. The narrowness is the trade. Engineering only, so there is no room to change direction within the campus, though cross-registration at the neighbouring institutions allows some breadth.
