Beijing Language and Culture University

Beijing Language and Culture University was founded in 1962 for a single purpose: teaching Chinese language and culture to international students. It is the most established institution in China for that, and it changes what is possible for an applicant who has no Chinese. Nearly every Chinese university requires HSK 4 or HSK 5 before a Chinese-taught degree. Beijing Language and Culture University teaches students to that level from the beginning. For a Kazakh school leaver with no Chinese who wants a Chinese degree, the realistic sequence is language study here or somewhere comparable, then a degree application elsewhere. It also awards degrees in its own right, including Chinese language and literature, translation and interpretation, international politics, finance, accounting and computer science, and it teaches literature degrees in Russian, Turkish, Arabic, Korean and a dozen other languages. The Russian and Turkish programmes are worth noting for a Kazakh applicant, who may already have one of those languages.
