Fuzhou University

Fuzhou University was founded in 1958 and is the leading engineering university in Fujian province, part of Project 211 and the Double First-Class Initiative. It has been approved by the Ministry of Education to offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and foreign countries, so international admission is an established function rather than an occasional one. That matters more to an applicant with an unfamiliar qualification than a ranking does. Its own Chinese-language profile gives a figure worth reading carefully: 40,358 undergraduates, of whom 13,667 are at Zhicheng College. Zhicheng is the independently operated college within the group, so roughly a third of the headcount that appears under this university's name is enrolled somewhere that admits, charges and awards on its own terms. Which entity a programme belongs to is therefore a first question rather than a detail. Setting Zhicheng aside leaves roughly 26,700 undergraduates against 18,968 postgraduates, a ratio that still points to a teaching-weighted institution rather than a research-first one. For an undergraduate applicant that is not a disadvantage. Fujian is a coastal province with a mild climate and living costs below the first-tier cities.
