The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou)

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) opened in 2022 and is the newest of the Sino-foreign cooperative universities. It is a full campus of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, established with Guangzhou University in the Nansha district. Its parent is among the highest-ranked universities in Asia, particularly in engineering, business and the sciences, and the Guangzhou campus is organised around interdisciplinary hubs rather than conventional departments. Being new is both the opportunity and the caution. A new institution has modern facilities and strong resourcing, and may be less selective in its early years than its parent's reputation would suggest. It also has no graduating cohorts yet, so employment outcomes and how the degree is received cannot be assessed from experience. Guangzhou living costs sit below Shenzhen while the city remains inside the Greater Bay Area.
