Huazhong University of Science and Technology

Huazhong University of Science and Technology was formed in 2000 from the merger of three institutions, including the Huazhong Institute of Technology founded in 1953 and Tongji Medical University. It is one of the two Project 985 institutions in Hubei and is strongest in engineering, medicine, optoelectronics and management. It appears on the Ministry of Education list of universities authorised to teach MBBS in English to international students. That authorisation is reissued annually, so a university's presence on the list in one year does not guarantee it the next, and current-year status is worth checking. Its Tongji Medical College is among the strongest medical faculties in China. Note that Tongji Medical College here is part of this university in Wuhan and is distinct from Tongji University in Shanghai, a separate institution with a shared historical name. Wuhan's low living costs apply, which across a six-year medical degree compounds substantially against a coastal city.
