Shandong University

Shandong University was founded in 1901 and is among the oldest modern universities in China, a Project 985 institution organised across 32 schools. It teaches broadly, from medicine and the sciences to literature, history and economics. It operates across multiple campuses in Jinan, Qingdao and Weihai, which are separate cities in Shandong province with different living costs and different programme ranges. Which campus a programme runs at should be established before anything else. Jinan is among the more affordable major Chinese university cities, sitting well below Beijing, Shanghai and the southern coastal centres. One naming point matters. Shandong University is in the city of Jinan. Jinan University is a separate institution in Guangzhou, 1,800 kilometres south. The two are frequently confused and correspondence sent on that assumption will not arrive.
