Xiangtan University

Xiangtan University is a provincial comprehensive university in Hunan, founded 1958 and reopened in 1974. It teaches across the sciences, engineering, law, economics, management and the humanities, and is part of the Double First-Class Initiative. It sits below the Project 985 and Project 211 institutions in national standing, which makes its entry requirements more reachable for an applicant whose grades or Chinese level fall short of those. That is the practical argument for it rather than reputation. Xiangtan is a smaller Hunan city roughly an hour from the provincial capital Changsha, and living costs are correspondingly low. Combined with provincial-university tuition, the total cost of a degree here is likely to be among the cheapest available in China. Its mathematics and law provision are recognised strengths nationally.
