University of Hertfordshire

The University of Hertfordshire is a public university at Hatfield, about twenty miles north of London, teaching business, computing, engineering, health, law and the creative arts. It also runs an MBBS medical programme. Hertfordshire publishes the clearest definition of sponsorship of any UK university, and the line it draws matters directly to a Bolashak applicant. Its scholarship requires a student to be paying the full tuition fee from their own resources and not sponsored for any part of the fee by an employer, charitable body or government department. It then carves out an exception no one else states: a contribution by an external organisation to the student's living costs, or a contribution from the student's family to the fee or living costs, does not count as sponsorship. Fee sponsorship disqualifies; help with living costs does not. That distinction is worth putting to every other university that excludes sponsored students without defining the term. Against that, Hertfordshire requires a compulsory non-refundable deposit of GBP 5,000 from students needing a Student visa — among the highest in the sector, and non-refundable where Keele's and Plymouth's are not.
