Public liberal arts college
USD 17,670 (2025/26)
SUNY New Paltz is a public liberal arts college in New York's Hudson Valley with more than 500 international students from over 70 nations. It removes the English test as a barrier more completely than almost any US college: it does not require the SAT, ACT or TOEFL for admission at all, and issues a dedicated Undergraduate Pathway I-20 to students who are not yet proficient, testing them on arrival and routing them through the Haggerty English Language Program. It also runs the #YouAreWelcomeHere scholarship, selecting two first-year international students each year for an annual, renewable award covering 50% of tuition. Applications for autumn close 1 May. As a SUNY campus it charges international students the non-resident rate, and New Paltz is a comprehensive college rather than a University Centre, so the lower non-Centre SUNY rate applies.
