Public research university
USD 40,366 (2026/27)
UMass Boston is a public research university on Boston harbour offering more than 200 programmes across ten colleges and graduate schools. For a Kazakh applicant it combines a public-university cost base with an unusually clear position on international funding — and the figures are modest. International first-year students are automatically considered for merit aid on the strength of the admission application, with those holding a 3.3 grade average or higher considered for an award of up to USD 10,000 annually. UMass Boston states plainly that international students do NOT qualify for Federal Work-Study, and that on-campus employment is available only through its Institutional Student Employment programme. Provisional admission through a University Preparation ESL programme is available to applicants whose English falls short — except in nursing, engineering and management, where it is not offered.
